Alexandru Rusu is currently leading the Swisscom 5G/IoT research laboratory where he is performing industrial research together with the academia. His experience consists in more than 15 years in research and development, gaining insights in different technological domains from several industries.
Following a Bachelor and a Master at the “POLITEHNICA” University of Bucharest (UPB), he completed a first PhD in nano-electronic devices at EPFL, Switzerland. Towards the end of his first PhD he started another PhD at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania where he successfully graduates three years later with highest honors. His research experience is completed by three postdocs in EPFL which redirected his career towards the industry. The domains covered in the PostDocs were medical devices, consumer products and IoT systems.
Subsequently, Alexandru was hired at Hamamatsu as an Innovation Engineer. His main role was to lead a small research lab in the EPFL campus where he was studying optical sensors and systems. Subsequently he was the technical lead for SGX Sensortech, an automotive company in Neuchatel, were he designed, tested and validated an air quality sensor.
His professional experience covers a wide spectrum from nano-electronic devices to complete system design in multiple application domains.
He is a family man, the father of two lovely kids and a wonderful wife.
As hobbies, he likes to build small gadgets which can improve his life. Cooking is one of his passions, which bring joy to the family 🙂
